The basic characteristics of stents vary depending on the specific application scenario; core features differ significantly across fields. Vascular stents are the most widely used in clinical practice; their core characteristics are outlined below:

 

Vascular Stents (Cardiovascular/Peripheral Vascular)
Structural Form: A hollow, mesh-like cylindrical structure. It has a diameter of only 1–3 mm in its unexpanded state but expands to fit the vessel size upon implantation; the uniform mesh design ensures unobstructed blood flow.
Material Properties: Typically made from medical-grade metals such as stainless steel, cobalt-chromium alloys, or nickel-titanium (Nitinol) alloys; some are made from biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA). They exhibit excellent biocompatibility and rarely trigger adverse immune reactions.
Core Performance: They provide sufficient radial support to prevent vessel recoil while maintaining good flexibility to conform to the natural curvature of blood vessels. Some feature anti-proliferative drug coatings to reduce the risk of post-procedure restenosis.
Usage Characteristics: Implanted via minimally invasive interventional procedures; once deployed, they remain in long-term contact with the vessel wall. Certain newer models are designed to be gradually degraded and absorbed by the body over 2–3 years.

 

Characteristics of Stents in Other Fields
Hydraulic Supports (Coal Mining): Powered by hydraulic cylinders and available in types such as support-style and shield-style. They feature high structural rigidity, capable of withstanding hundreds of tons of roof pressure, and are suitable for operations in coal seams with varying stability.
Industrial Servo Motor Mounts: Made from high-strength aluminum alloy or ductile iron. They ensure precise alignment between the motor shaft and transmission components and incorporate vibration-damping structures to prevent resonance during equipment operation.
General-Purpose Support Brackets: Includes types such as photovoltaic (solar) mounting systems and equipment mounting brackets. Key features include strong weather resistance and stable load-bearing capacity, with the flexibility to adjust angles and installation positions based on the specific application scenario.
